A Quick guide to brake shoe cleaning the Greg way. This is my method and It IS only a suggestion for emergencys. I do not advise this if you can get your shoes relined.

IT is up to you if you try this or not. I take NO responsibility for any injurys / accidents / damage / costs incured by yourself or others in attempting to do this.

DO NOT DO THIS NEAR NAKED FLAMES....VERY FLAMMABLE LIQUID.

Brake shoes covered in axle oil and brake fluid can be cleaned, I am not saying it is the best option, fitting new linings would be best. I have had to clean shoes in the past to get me out of a scrape, I use brake and clutch fluid cleaner.

Fig 1. Shows a Mk2 S56 5 inch brake shoe(psv) soaked in axle oil, ep 90!
Fig 2. Shows the same shoe after two full 24 hour soaks.
24 hours soaking then dried out then another 24 hours in a bucket of brake cleaning fluid and then left to dry for a day in the sun.
