Removing the engine mountings, there are only two
at the front, the rear of the engine is mounted through the bell
housing and the gearbox mountings take the rear weight of the engine
and do not need to be removed.
The engine MUST be supported by the engine hoist
while doing this, it is the first point in the removal where the
engine needs to be supported. Make sure the engine hoist is taking
the weight of the engine but only just, if you put to much pressure
on the hoist it will make getting the bolts out much harder and
when you do release the mountings the engine will want to go up
and this could lead to injury or accident.

We
removed the whole mounting assembly on each side at the chassis
and left the top mounting points attached to the engine, the
above image shows the assembly which is attached to the chassis
by 4 x 17mm headed bolts and nuts. see 1 (Chassis mounting) and
4 (Engine mounting).
There
is a nut at points 2 and 3 and these attach the engine rubber
mounting to either end of the assembly. we didn't remove
both of these, only one from the bottom end, this gave us a bit
of play while lifting out the engine. These nuts are hard to
get to and the passengerside is the worst.

Getting the spanner just where you need it can
be harder than you think.

Undoing those mounting bolts.
